Business Model Canvas
The Business Model Canvas is the one-page model that lays out a business model in nine building blocks: customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, partners and cost structure. Its strength is shared language: a team can see on one sheet how value is created, delivered and captured, and sketch alternatives side by side. Its weakness is equally practical: the canvas describes and orders but tests nothing. A filled-in canvas feels like strategy while every assumption remains unproven, and the model says nothing about competition or timing. Useful as the start of the conversation, risky as its end.
