Strategy choice cascade
choice cascade · Playing to Win
The strategy choice cascade is the model from Playing to Win defining strategy as five linked choices: what is our winning aspiration, where do we play, how do we win there, what capabilities does that require, and which management systems sustain it. Its power lies in the linkage: each choice must follow from the previous one and enable the next, so woolly ambitions run aground visibly. For marketing leaders the cascade is above all a translation device: it connects brand choices to organisation and investment, and makes explicit that refusing to choose where you do not play is not strategy but postponement.
